The GIS Toolkit provides powerful tools for spatial analysis and management of infrastructure assets within the industrial, municipal and private sectors. The toolkit has been built using ESRI's (link to website, or our corporate list of partners & descript) proven logic model, driven by a customized GeoDatabase that allows for optimum analysis and management. Current manageable sectors within the Burnside GIS Toolkit are the Route Patrol Manager, Fleet Manager, Winter Patrol Manager, Road Asset Manager, Land Use Manager, and Notification Manager. The GIS Toolkit offers a powerful working environment for all individuals from the GIS professional to the non-GIS user. The Toolkit is designed to improve data analysis techniques and minimize data management time.

The Toolkit system is built on a foundation of core tools to enable quick and easy searching, reporting and data management as it pertains to spatial asset management. These tools are designed to encourage GIS users to perform key tasks regardless of knowledge of advanced GIS techniques. It will also help to improve efficiency and minimize repetitive tasks presented to the advanced user.

Burnside developed the RPM (Route Patrol Manager) software as a tool for municipal roads superintendents, managers and supervisors to efficiently collect data with respect to Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (Ontario Regulation 239/02). "The standards were developed to provide municipalities with a legal defense against liability from actions arising with regard to level of care on roads and bridges." (OGRA, 2003).

Burnside's solution for a fleet tracking and management system consists of a set of hardware and software components for monitoring fieldwork and tracking maintenance and patrolling vehicles. The collection of this data can be effectively used to help limit a municipality's exposure to liability and to perform cost analysis on maintenance intensive roads.
